Surrounded by rivers and a tidal stream, Manhattan has always been a hub of maritime commerce. Seafaring is imprinted in its DNA; even the term skyscraper refers to the to the highest sail on a clipper ship.
NewYorker’s connection with the water, however, has eroded over time. Highways and industrial complexes separate the city from the water, and oceans became a scary and uncontrollable dimension
Through five interactive works, “Adventure of Emotional Liquids,” invites the public to play with water and explore our relationship with it in a new poetic way.
Interpreting water dynamics as a series of joyful and meditative states, OrganicInterfaces combines performance, interactive installation, sculpture, and sounds evoking the power of the ocean. Water movement, barometric pressure, wind, and swell inspire a sculptural Immersive landscape that stimulate our fascination of being at sea wile bringing us close to water.
In this landscape of water reflections, walk-ways, floating-docks, and cargo containers; wave patterns become the notes of a musical instrument to play with and swim in, NewYorkHarbor tidal waves expand and retract shock relievers on imaginary docking lines; hidden underwater sounds are streamed live from the abyss of the HudsonRiver; water dynamics are transferred into a human scale simulator made of millions of inflatable balloons, while isobar systems are spiral kinetic sculptures made of an intricate system of pulleys, ropes, and swivels that squeaks overhead while mutating shape and tension based on local barometric pressure.
The work is build with a combination of new and recycled material.
